Muntele Gaina – Targul de fete ~ The girl fair on Gaina Mountain ~


In fiecare an, pe Muntele Gaina se organizeaza, in cea mai apropiata duminica de 20 iulie, cea mai mare sarbatoare traditionala romaneasca in aer liber “Targul de fete“.

Desfasurarea targului are loc intr-o frumoasa poiana, inconjurata de paduri de brad si situata la inaltimea de 1467 m. Urcarea se poate face cu masina din comuna Avram Iancu pe un drum amenajat in ultimii ani, sau pe vechile poteci care pornesc de langa Consiliul popular si traverseaza Dealul Dobrani, Dealul Pietrelor, trec paraul Rece si Dealul Muncelului si ajung la varf in circa o ora si jumatate.

Pe vremuri, acolo se adunau locuitorii din diferite vai ale Apusenilor – valea Crisului, valea Arieselor – si din partile Bihorului pentru a-si schimba produsele specifice acestor zone. Targul avea o mare importanta etnografica, facand posibila intalnirea si casatoria tinerilor aflati in zone indepartate, evitandu-se astfel incrucisarile intre rudele apropriate.

Se spune ca fetele veneau cu zestrea incarcata pe cai, iar cununia se facea pe loc de catre preoti care veneau acolo in acest scop, tinerii plecand apoi la casele lor. Ceremonia era insotita de cantece si jocuri cu „strigaturi”, veritabile probe de maiestrie si iscusinta, iar fetele „se luau”, nu se cumparau.

Astazi, Targul de fete de la Gaina s-a transformat intr-o mare sarbatoare folclorica, la care isi dau concursul locuitorii din zona Muntilor Apuseni, din judetele apropiate si chiar din tinuturi mai andepartate ale tarii.

Pregatirile se fac cu cateva zile inainte, iar plecarea spre munti se face in jurul orei patru dimineata. Deschiderea o fac vestitele tulnicarese de la Avram Iancu, dupa care urmeaza programul artistic al participantilor care dureaza pana spre seara.

Pentru turisti, targul mai ofera si produse artizanale specifice zonei: tulnice, vase de lemn pirogravate, ceramica de Bihor si Zarand, unelte de lemn, tesaturi populare de casa si produse culinare.

Each and every year on the closest Sunday to 20 July it is organized from times immemorial “The girl fair from Gaina”. This ethno-cultural manifestation was mentioned for the first time in documents in 1816. The fair took place at the height of 1467 m in a beautiful clearing. There gathered the denizens of different vales of the Apuseni to change their products. The fair made possible the meeting and the marriage of the youth from far regions avoiding in this way crossing of appropriate relatives.

It’s said that the girls had came with their dotal-gifts on their horses and the marriages were allied locally by the priests that went there with this scope. The ceremony went with songs, folk-dance with “shootings” as well as the girls were taken not purchased.

Today the girl fair from Gaina transformed in a big folk feast where competed the habitants of the Western Mountain’s region, of close-by counties but of farther regions as well. The preparations are made several days before as the departure in the mountains’ direction is along about four a clock in the morning. The opening is made by the famous alpenhorns from Avram Iancu what is followed the artistic program of the participants that goes on until evening.

For tourists the fair offers peasant objects specifics to the region: alpenhorns, poker-worked wooden vases, and ceramics from Bihor and Zarand, wooden means, folk-weaves and cooking products
